Five employees in the Virginia Tech Office of University Relations and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences received awards at the recent Association for Communication Excellence conference.

The association's 2009 conference took place in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 6–9.

The award winners are

  • Randall R. Stith, director, Broadcast and Visual Communications, and Gabrielle Minnich, public relations coordinator, Broadcast and Visual Communications, both of Blacksburg; and Keith Thomas, producer/director, Broadcast and Visual Communications, of Roanoke, Va.: Gold Award in Promotional Production and Outstanding Professional Skill Award in Electronic Media for Virginia Tech: Invent the Future .
  • Dan Mirolli, producer/director, Broadcast and Visual Communications, of Elliston, Va.; Gabrielle Minnich; and Randall R. Stith: Gold Award in Spot Production for Virginia Tech 2008 Institutional Spot.
  • Michael Sutphin, writer, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, of Blacksburg: Gold Award in Writing for the Web for “High-risk plant pathogens have a new foe.”
