Forbes newsletter editor and book author Vahan Janjigian will give a talk on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., as the featured speaker in the BB&T Distinguished Lecture Series on Capitalism, hosted by Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business.

The talk, “Even Buffett Isn’t Perfect,” will be based on Janjigian’s new book on Warren Buffett, “Even Buffett Isn’t Perfect: What You Can — and Can’t — Learn from the World’s Greatest Investor.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Alumni Assembly Hall at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.

Janjigian, a Pamplin alumnus who earned a master’s in business administration in 1982 and a doctorate in finance in 1985, is chief investment strategist at Forbes, vice president and executive director of the Forbes Investors Advisory Institute, and editor of the Forbes Growth Investor and Special Situation Survey investment newsletters.

A regular contributor to Forbes magazine and Forbes.com, he has made numerous presentations on economic and investment topics, appears frequently as a guest commentator on TV and radio programs, and blogs about the economy and stock markets. His newsletters have significantly outperformed the market indexes, according to the Hulbert Financial Digest, an independent publication that tracks the performance of investment newsletters.

Read a profile on Janjigian and a review of his book by SunTrust Professor of Finance John Pinkerton in the fall 2008 issue of Pamplin magazine.

The BB&T Distinguished Lecture is part of a teaching program exploring the foundations of capitalism and freedom that was established in 2007 in the Pamplin College’s finance department with a $1 million gift from BB&T Charitable Foundation. Featuring two speakers each year, the lecture series will discuss current issues in business management and government policy, in addition to topics related to capitalism.
