Linda Correll and Melissa Williams are the recipients of Virginia Tech’s 2008 Staff Leadership Awards.

The staff leadership award program aims to recognize strong leadership qualities among non-student wage, classified, and university staff employees. Leadership, for the purposes of this program, is defined as regularly demonstrating the behaviors of a strong leader in support of the goals of the university, college/vice-president area, or university department.

Correll, a resident of Newport, Va. and laboratory facility and resource manager in the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, was recognized for consistently practicing a collaborative style of servant-leadership that is noticed by her peers, subordinates, and managers.

Williams, fiscal coordinator in the College of Engineering's Department of Mechanical Engineering, was selected for outstanding contributions to the department in terms of leadership provided to staff, students, and faculty.

Each winner was presented with a plaque in recognition of their accomplishment and each will receive a $500 monetary award.

The Virginia Tech Staff Leadership Award is co-sponsored by the Office of Human Resources, University Leadership Development, and the Commission for Staff Policies and Affairs (CSPA).
