The Department of Recreational Sports, part of Virginia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs, has been recognized as a National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Creative Excellence Award recipient.

Recreational sports received a second place award for the Recreational Sports 2007-2008 calendar. The calendar is used to help promote the department during the freshman and transfer orientations and during other events held in the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities.

The Creative Excellence Awards are designed to recognize the innovation and creativity of National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association members and acknowledge outstanding accomplishments in marketing recreational sports, fitness, facilities, and programs.

“It takes a lot of work to put together a project like this that will represent the entire recreational sports program,” said Michelle Via. “I really enjoyed making the calendar, and I’m happy to take a huge part in representing our division to the rest of the recreational sports community.”

Via is a senior student graphic designer for the marketing department. She helped design the calendar and has worked with other projects aimed at facilitating marketing for fitness, intramural, sport clubs, and the recreational sports department as a whole.

The calendar also provides the Virginia Tech business community with an opportunity to offer coupons and discounts to Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff while helping to promote the department.
