Timothy R. Woodward of Madison, Va., a senior majoring in crop and soil environmental sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, was awarded the university's Lt. Timothy Price Memorial Scholarship for his academic accomplishments and leadership in his soil survey and taxonomy class. This is the third year the scholarship has been awarded.

John Galbraith, professor of crop and soil environmental sciences, established the scholarship to honor the memory of Lt. Timothy Price, a former student in his soil survey and taxonomy class from Midlothian, Va., Price was killed in action in Iraq after voluntarily returning for a second tour of duty.

“Tim Price demonstrated strong leadership during class field trips and was a cheerful, responsible, and enthusiastic student,” said Galbraith. “Tim Woodward sets a high academic standard and has been a strong leader in class, sharing information from his soil judging team experiences with others. Price made the world a better place, believing strongly in the Virginia Tech motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). I know that Woodward will attempt to do the same, and I know Price would appreciate Woodward’s attitude, good sense of humor, and self-motivation.”
