Noted Spanish architect to give lecture October 3
Award-winning architect Cesar Ruiz-Larrea Cangas, principal of Ruiz-Larrea and Associates, in Madrid, Spain, will discuss "Contemporary Architecture in Spain" on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in Hancock Hall.
In conjunction with this lecture, an exhibition of Ruiz-Larrea’s work will be on display in the Art and Architecture Library in the Surge Building from Monday, Oct. 1, through Friday, Oct. 5.
These events are held to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Virginia Tech.
Originally founded in 1997 by Ruiz-Larrea and his partner, Antonio Gómez Gutiérrez, the firm Ruiz-Larrea & Associates has included Eduardo Prieto González as a third partner since 2006. Today Ruiz-Larrea & Associates is a team of more than 20 professionals working throughout Spain and abroad. Ruiz-Larrea & Associates projects include urban master plans, public and cultural buildings, offices, residential high-rise buildings, private houses, furniture design, and architecture exhibition design.
The sponsors of the lecture and exhibition are the School of Architecture + Design, the Henry W. Wiss Center for Theory and History of Art and Architecture, and Sigma Delta Pi Hispanic Honor Society.
The College of Architecture and Urban Studies is one of the largest of its type in the nation. The college is composed of three schools and the Department of Art and Art History, part of the multi-college School of the Arts. The School of Architecture + Design includes programs in architecture, industrial design, interior design, and landscape architecture. The School of Public and International Affairs includes programs in urban affairs and planning, public administration and policy, and government and international affairs. The Myers-Lawson School of Construction, a joint school of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and the College of Engineering, includes programs in building construction and construction management. The college enrolls nearly 2,000 students offering 24 degrees taught by 153 faculty members.
