Imagine the mass of orange and maroon Virginia Tech colors that flood Lane Stadium every home football game, but on Sunday, Sept 30, the Hokies will take over the streets too.

The University Bookstore is sponsoring the Homecoming 5K Spirit Run that day in support of the Hokie Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This year’s 5K run will be a very special event to the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to run as a team to celebrate life and to remember our fellow Hokies that were lost or injured on April 16,” said Ali Arner, fitness coordinator in the Recreational Sports Department. “It’s healthy to exercise during grieving times, and we are striving to better Hokies both mentally and physically.”

The 1-Mile Fun run will begin at Margaret Beeks Elementary School at noon. The event is open to all Virginia Tech patrons, and the public.

For additional information concerning the registration forms, fees, and times of the University Bookstore Homecoming 5K Spirit Run, please contact Recreational Sports at 231-6856.

The Virginia Tech Recreational Sports Department joins in partnership with the university to enhance the quality of life for all students, faculty, staff, their families, and the community by providing recreational and fitness opportunities throughout the year.
