Virginia Tech's Graduate Education Week 2007, to be held March 26-30, is a week-long celebration conducted by the Graduate School to recognize the skills and accomplishments of the university's graduate students, increase community awareness of the many contributions of post-baccalaureate students, and offer festive social events for everyone.

The Graduate Student Assembly kicks off the week with their elegant Gala, a semi-formal dinner and dance to be held at the Holiday Inn Friday, March 23. Departments are encouraged to treat their graduate students to a Mexican theme lunch on Monday, March 26 at the Graduate Student Appreciation Luncheon.

The latest student research developments will be displayed at the Graduate Student Assembly’s day-long research symposium on Wednesday, March 28. Formal recognition ceremonies, including the Graduate Student Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 29, will honor the winners of prestigious awards for graduate student contributions in teaching, research, and service.

The university community is invited to vote for their favorite artwork in the Graduate Student Photography and Art Contest. The artistic talents of graduate students will be on display throughout the final week of March in the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson Brown.

Special events will give graduate students a break from their studies. Graduate students may pick up free tickets to the Academy Award nominated film “Little Children” for Movie Night at The Lyric on Thursday, March 29.

On Friday, March 30, students will be challenged to put their creativity, building skills, and wit to the test in “Charette This!”—a light-hearted contest where graduate students will compete for prizes. The week will culminate that day with an annual favorite, the Big Cook Out, a barbeque for graduate students and their families featuring food, games, and prizes.
