As recent graduation rates have shown, landing the first job out of college can sometimes be difficult as employers look for work experience as well as a college degree.

To assist students, Career Services at Virginia Tech is holding the Connection 2007 Job Fair, Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Commonwealth Ballroom of the Squires Student Center, to give students the opportunity to get the real-world experience they need. Connection 2007 is the only job fair held on campus specifically for employers who are seeking students for internship or co-op positions.

More than 125 employers will be on hand to talk to students about experiential learning opportunities with their organizations.

“Interest in the job fair this year has been phenomenal, said Betsy McCoy, career services recruiting manager. We have so many companies contacting us each year that we have to have a waiting list.”

Many of the Connection 2007 employers will return to campus on Wed., Feb. 14, to conduct interviews. These interviews are held in rooms throughout Squires Student Center, but student check-in for all interviews is held in the Williamsburg Room in Squires.

For a complete list of employers who will be on campus for the job fair, along with a list of co-op and internship positions being offered visit the Career Services' web site.

“Students should bring copies of their resumes to give to employers,” recommends McCoy. “Bringing copies of transcripts is also helpful, as some employers request them.”

Students who are interested in participating in the Virginia Tech Co-op/Internship Program should attend one of the small group sessions on how to get career-related experience which are offered throughout the semester. Students must attend one of the small group session prior to the start of the Co-op/Internship Program. Students can register for one of these sessions by visiting Career Services, Corner of Washington Street and West Campus Drive, or by calling 231-6241.
