A partnership between the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), AdvaMed, and the Virginia Tech Center for Applied Health Sciences has resulted in a groundbreaking conference scheduled to take place in the DC Metro area May 18 and 19.

The Congress on Global Approaches to Risk Management: Current and Future Strategies will bring together leaders from industry as well as national and international regulatory bodies to share perspectives on the shifting landscape of risk management for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare networks, food production, environmental control, and transportation.

The roster of speakers includes FDA Deputy Commissioner Janet Woodcock, Alf Dolan, convener of ISO 14971, and USDA Deputy Undersecretary Merle Pierson. The conference will also feature presentations by Daniel Schultz (director, FDA Center for Devices & Radiological Health) and Robert Brackett (director, FDA Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition) as well as scientists and policy makers from the World Health Organization, the European Union, the U.S. Public Health Service, and the Dept. of Homeland Security. Juxtaposed with these will be a number of distinguished speakers from industry and academia, creating a thoroughly balanced forum for productive discussion.

Topics will include legal risks, use of risk tools, human factors, enterprise risk management, total life cycle, environmental risk management, research & development, and risk communication. Meeting size will be limited for this exclusive event, promoting individual contact and informal discussion.

The conference will be held at the Hilton Washington D.C., Silver Spring, MD, on May 18-19, 2006. Additional program and registration information is available online - or by contacting Krystine McGrath.
