Tim Castine, woodshop technician and photography instructor in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech, has been awarded the Best Black and White prize by the jurors of the 12th Annual American Institute of Architects Miami International Photography Competition.

His winning photograph, "Sherbrooke St. Ghost," was taken in Montreal, Quebec, with AGFA Scala Film using a Hasselblad medium format camera equipped with a 40mm lens. The image was printed with an Epson 4000 camera loaded with Piezotone carbon sepia inks.

"Each time I visit Montreal, I search the city for these walls that may eventually be hidden by new construction, foam, stucco, or paint," said Castine. "Through demolition, the architecture of the city is brought back to its graphic roots. And, for a time, we are blessed with full size section drawings created by masons, plasterers, and carpenters that are rich with detail and texture."
